Chicory Relaxing

This is a picture of the real Chicory -a mouse I started writing about back when I was a teenager.  I've found, since, that the tougher life is the more likely I am to write fluff.  The teenage years are about as rough as life gets, so naturally Chicory is a very fluffy character.  After all this time I'm still fond of her, and she's still one of my favorite things to draw.

    Thanks. :) I'm really proud of how the foam came out. I've never tried shading bubbles before.

    One of the things I love about mouse stories is how writing about such a small creature changes the perspective of everything. A Lilac bush is a forest, and so is a bed of daffodils. (I used to play `My Little Ponies' in the flowerbeds.)

    I guess bubbles would be tricky. I really should ask the cousin whose an artist on the side; I suspect she'll agree. {Smile}

    That change in perspective is neat. I'll have to watch that more carefully with my shorter characters. {Smile}

    I don't mind; I just got distracted from answering for a bit. {rueful smile}

    My cousin does two dimensional pictures in a variety of styles. I have some nice woodcut bookplates she made, along with some cards that look like watercolors. One of her paintings we have is an oil. She might do sketches, too; I'm not sure. {Smile}

    Art is sort of a paying hobby for her. She does it on the side of being a store clerk. For years she worked in a bookstore. After it closed, she tried having an online store, before becoming a clerk in a department store. She really enjoys leaving management decisions to her boss now. {Smile}

    That's awesome that she's able to make money off her hobby. I'm really impressed that she does woodcuts. That's a medium I've never tried. I find the idea a little intimidating, because mistakes would be hard to recover.

    I know. Making art pay for itself - let alone a few treats ont he side - is doing pretty good as far as I'm concerned. I'd like to do that with my writing some day. {Smile}

    I've never done woodcuts, but then I'm not much of an artist. I might have a little of the family talent, but I have more for writing. Besides, that's what I concentrated on developing: my skill at writing. {Smile}

    That's kind of how I feel about the violin. If I got serious about music I'd probably do sorta okay, but then I wouldn't have as much time for my writing and drawing. :)

    I have the same situation with music. I sing, play the recorder, and used to play the flute, but I don't practice enough to be as good as I could be. I'd rather write. Reading and research help my writing, so those get attention, too. Things which don't help my writing don't get as much attention. {Smile}

    Except for friends and relatives; they're a separate priority. {SMILE}
