Not exactly a goodbye

I thought I'd let people know what's going on with me.

Dad is home on hospice -well, home to my grandma's house.  He is dying.  It's been great that our family is getting this chance to say goodbye.  Not everyone has that chance.

We've had a lot of friends over, mostly playing and singing for him.  Mom's been an absolute rock through the whole thing.  I think being able to do nurse stuff to keep him comfortable is really helping her cope.

Dad's been telling everyone who visits to make sure they meet up with him on the other side.  He says he'll probably be down by the river (it's mentioned in Revelations, so you know Heaven has one.)  He also says he wishes he could send us all a postcard when he gets there.  It's really comforting to know this isn't goodbye, just `so long for now.'

  1. I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope the ending is peaceful. {sympathetic look, BIG HUG}

    "So long for now" is reassuring, isn't it? {sympathetic look, BIG SQUEEZE}

    If you're looking for and ear that removed from the situation, my public email is anneb at aloha dot net. write me there, and you'll learn my (semi)private email pretty quickly. {Smile}

    I think I can relate, at least somewhat. I'm going thru something similar with my best friend, except she lives a long ways away. I don't know if that makes things better, or worse. {resigned look}

  2. I don't know the better or worse question either. My sister is in from Wisconsin. I think living so far away was pretty hard on her. It took her a little time to adjust to how sick dad was when she finally got to see him. For the rest of us it was more gradual. Thanks for the offer to bend your ear. I don't know whether I'll take you up on it or not, but I really appreciate knowing I can. :)

  3. I can see your sister's problem. Hearing someone is very sick isn't the same as seeing how sick they are with your own eyes in person. {resigned smile}

    Whether you do email or not is up to you and what you can handle. My offer stands even if you want to talk about something besides having a loved one very, very sick. I find something I need to talk about Anything Else, and that's fine, too. {Sympathetic Smile}

    One tip when you really need to use email to talk something out: if you do it on a computer or something with a full keyboard, it's easy to be as chatty as any post. You don't have to do short answers like the folks I know who always answer on their phones. {SMILE, wink}

  4. Thanks. :) I do tend to be rather long-winded with e-mails. Probably partly because I've never gotten into texting.

  5. I haven't gotten into texting, either. I love to chat in email too much to want to fight with that. If that makes me long-winded... {shrug, Smile}

    I suspect I'd like your emails. {SMILE}
